Artists // Samantha Brown
In 1998 my interest in fine art led me to leave the film industry and I began to paint full time. I started with mural painting
and colour washes in restaurants and private homes as well as family portraits and “copies” of old masters (which was particularly
popular in Cape Town at the time). Having gained experience with scenic artists from the U.S., my interest in paint effects and the
different chemicals one uses to create various finishes led me to start doing abstract work.
I prefer large canvasses and I am experimenting with highly textured surfaces. My first loves are figurative and abstract work.
I had my first joint exhibition at the Arabella Resort in Hermanus in May 2003. I supply interior shops in Cape Town (e.g. Casa
and Solid) but work mostly on private commissions.
